Knowing a little about Alejandra Segui
Alejandra is the current Spanish junior triathlon champion and is one of our youngest ambassadors. Behind her sweet and shy appearance hides a total competitor: determined, brave, tenacious and with the ambition to reach the international elite of women's triathlon. She competes with Club Esportiu Atlètic Bétera (CEA Bétera), a team that in 2022 was ranked among the top 5 teams in the national ranking. She is considered one of the great promises of the Spanish triathlon.
Personal sporting achievements…
Alejandra started practicing triathlon when she was only 5 years old. She grew up watching her two older sisters compete in triathlons and at the age of 5 she began training. At 10 years old she broke her arm and for a while she stayed away from cycling and running, but she kept swimming and ended up going back to all 3 disciplines. In 2021 she was summoned by the Spanish Triathlon Federation to play the junior triathlon European Cup (in whose first test, in Hungary, she was the first junior of the team). That year she competed for the first time in the European Youth Championship, in Alanya (Turkey), the most important international event in the category, and in the Spanish Championship she finished in third position. The bronze in the 2021 national championship left a bad taste in his mouth because he aspired to gold, so in 2022 he set out to do everything possible to climb to the top of the podium: he isolated himself for the entire month of August in Sierra Nevada to do a specific preparation for the Spanish Championship and won his first national title.
What you may not know about Alejandra is…
She studies medicine at the University of Valencia, but was very close to starting her university career in the United States, where a Texas university wanted to grant her a scholarship as a triathlete. She decided to stay so as not to be separated from her family and because she feels very happy and supported in her club, CEA Bétera, where she also has Noelia Juan, Spanish sprint triathlon champion, as a partner and reference. "There's a great group of girls and we're very motivated by each other," she explains.
