Corrida do Dragão, a 42K blue tide

A tide of 10,000 runners will dye the streets of Porto blue on September 10. That day, an iconic race takes place in Portugal’s “northern capital”: Corrida do Dragão.

Corrida do Dragão (Dragon Race) is a spectacular sports event created to offer thousands of FC Porto (Futebol Clube do Porto) fans the chance to run next to the Estádio do Dragão, the home of one of the biggest Portuguese football clubs and a classic of European football.

Followers of FC Porto—a club founded in 1893 whose players are nicknamed dragões (dragons, after the mythical creature atop their crest)—have the chance for one day to join together for a 10km race or a 5km walk.

The start and finish lines for both events are located next to the Estádio do Dragão, the setting for all the emotions of the portistas, as the club’s fans are known.

FC Porto’s traditional colors are blue and white, which is why blue is the color that all runners starting the 10K will wear on their shirts, and everyone (grandparents, parents, and children) participating in the 5km walk will also be dressed in blue.
