Running on an empty stomach

by Paco Amoros

We are not referring to running on an empty stomach, because although apart from burning fat (the body spends it as energy), we will also burn muscle and the chances of it giving us a drop in energy are very high.

When we are fasting, in addition to burning fat for fuel, the body will also mobilize protein to help meet energy demand. And it will achieve them by breaking down the muscle tissue (and apart from the fact that you will not like that, we warn you that it will not ask your permission...)

Consuming BCAAs before doing cardio in the morning reduces or even prevents protein breakdown that would otherwise occur.

Keep in mind that if you do fasted cardio, HIIT (high intensity training) is not the most suitable, since the body needs an extra supply of energy that you will only be able to give it with HC. On an empty stomach, work at a moderate pace between 50 and 60% of your maximum heart rate per minute.

The catabolic state
After sleeping through the night for 6-8 hours, when we wake up, we find ourselves in a catabolic state, this means a state of negative nitrogen balance, something that no fitness person wants.
If we perform cardio at this time, on an empty stomach, we create an even greater state of catabolism, which on the other hand will cause a degradation and loss of muscle tissue and mass. Exactly the opposite of what we are looking for.
It's true that blood sugar levels are lower in the morning, but so are amino acids, the building blocks of protein.

morning cardio
If you plan to do cardio in the morning, make sure to consume protein (shake or solid form) and a few carbohydrates about 45 minutes before starting the activity.
Our priority when we wake up, is to provide our body after fasting all night, it must be ingesting the aforementioned macronutrients. Regenerating the anabolic state. We are interested in being in a continuous catabolic state, which is why we mustlimeContact us every 3 hours or less.
