The dynamics of the race, do I really know how I run?
There comes a time when our passion for running, makes us interested in the more technical aspects of the race, with which we really find out what level we are at, but which most of the time we do not know how to interpret.
Leaving aside running technique and its efficiency, we find an equation that will be key in our speed and pace per minute; CADENCE AND STRIDE LENGTH.
Surely you have seen many articles about the cadence and the magic number of 180 STEPS per minute, as if it were the key number to be a good runner. Well, it is a good figure, and we must be around it in our outings, but surely you have not seen many articles preaching a good STRIDE LENGTH. Do you know which one is yours? .
I have seen many popular runners with a cadence of 180 or more, but with a stride of just over a meter and to go faster, they increase their leg speed even more and that detracts from their speed and pace.
Think of the simile with a bicycle, when the moment comes that we can no longer pedal faster and reach more speed, and we only go up in speed, when we slow down the bicycle. Well, going down a bicycle gear corresponds to lengthening the stride.
The correct distribution of this equation will allow us to choose what speed and rhythm to take, shorter stride, slower rhythms and longer stride, faster rhythms, trying to maintain a CADENCE agile at all paces.
Another advantage of wearing an agile CADENCE is the contact time with the ground. The faster our stride, the less time on the ground we will be, with the dynamic and muscular benefits that this entails.
Most devices GPS, they are already beginning to include a lot of useful data on race dynamics and like any other data, then you have to analyze it to be able to choose the path to take to improve it.
In the photo we can see a quality training of 8k, subthreshold, where a stride of 1mtrs + a CADENCE of 36, made me move at 183:4 min / km. If I had increased the distance to 02 Mrs., I would have rolled at 1,50:3 min / km, with a very considerable increase in heart rate, of course.
YOU DECIDE WHAT PACE TO GO, MANAGING CADENCE AND STRIDE LENGTH.
Remember, to improve you do not have to run to run, like any other sport, there are countless technical aspects to influence.
