The importance of leg training in the gym.

by Paco Amoros

Runners often wonder about the importance of working the muscle strength of our legs. Obviously not training your legs is a serious mistake, we bring you this video of the great Chema Martínez so that you can see how a marathoner does it in the gym, and that he is not only limited to doing cardio and series. Chema Martinez is a great example to follow. At 40 years old, this man from Madrid is still on the front line of long-distance athletics. Chema, in addition to having won the European gold in the 10.000m in the European Munich 2002 among many other titles, is currently one of the best national long-distance runners and can be seen during the winter standing up to the Africans in the season cross.

This video should serve as an example for all those who are runners and want to improve their marks but never do strength work in the gym for fear that it will be counterproductive to their performance, or for those who think that running is enough work to train the leg.

Chema Martínez has a time of 27min30sg in the 10km and 2h08min in the marathon, with which we can see that he has a good level of ground speed and incredible resistance, only within the reach of professionals, and that weight training helps him to maintain that explosiveness necessary to endure a rhythm as high as the one they carry.
We hope it will help you!
