What you might not know about María…
María has a twin sister called Lucía who is also an elite athlete. “Lucía was born first, but the doctor told my mother that I was the elder because I was the one who spent longest inside her”, she says. Since 2026 they have worn the Metaesport colours together, the club where they both started competing in the U16 category, although Lucía later went on to represent other clubs. Even though they are not identical twins the resemblance between them is remarkable, and the only way to tell them apart is to look for a freckle on María’s face. María is a keen reader, but she also says she likes to spend her free time with her family and her friends.
