Since it was born in 1978, Club Atletismo Occidente – Navia has been a benchmark for sport in the Eo-Navia region. Founded by a group of athletics enthusiasts under the original name of Casino de Navia, the club has kept the spirit of effort, friendship and self-improvement alive for almost five decades. Today it continues to grow with the same enthusiasm, combining the experience of its senior and master athletes with the energy of the youngest ones, who are part of the Athletics School, created in 2015 and celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. With 140 athletes in the youth categories and around 40 in the senior categories, it competes in every athletics discipline —from sprinting and middle distance to jumps, throws and relays, always with Cross Country present— taking part at regional and national level as well as in the region's best-loved popular races, such as the San Silvestre de Navia (the second oldest in Asturias). More than a club, it is a family united by a passion for athletics, by respect and by the sporting and social education of young people. Its sporting approach rests on a deeply human and educational idea of athletics.
