And for good reason: one of the most iconic figures in Spanish athletics, Fermín Cacho, is joining as our new brand ambassador. Having an athletics legend with us, whose Olympic feat in Barcelona ’92 remains engraved in the memory of several generations, reinforces our commitment to this sport and its values.

A career that defined an era in Spanish athletics

Fermín Cacho was born in Ágreda (Soria) in 1969 and showed an exceptional talent for middle-distance running from a young age. His consecration came at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games, where he won the gold medal in the 1,500 meters with a race that is part of Spanish sporting history: a perfect strategy, a controlled pace, and an explosive final 400m that took him straight to the podium and into the hearts of millions of Spaniards and athletics lovers worldwide.

Four years later, he sought Olympic glory again at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games, but the fall of Moroccan Hicham El Guerrouj in the final part of the race hindered Fermín Cacho, and he had to settle for the Olympic silver medal. In Atlanta ’96, despite not achieving gold (won by Algerian Noureddine Morceli, although everything suggested the two big favorites were Cacho and El Guerrouj), he confirmed his status as one of the best middle-distance runners in the world of his time.

His impressive record also includes the title of European champion in Helsinki 1994, world runner-up in Stuttgart 1993, as well as several Spanish championship titles.

His elegant and tactical running style inspired entire generations of runners. And his legacy remains very much alive in the collective imagination of national sport.

The return of a legend: Cacho returns to popular races

After his retirement from professional athletics at age 33 due to a health issue, many thought we would never see Fermín with a race bib again. But in 2024, more than two decades after hanging up his running shoes, Fermín Cacho returned to racing. This time from a very different place: as a recreational runner.

This return has been received with enormous affection from the public. Not only for what it means in sporting terms, but for what it represents on a human level: an example that running is much more than competing. It is an act of connection with oneself, with others, and with a passion that is never lost.
